HI,

I’m George Balfour. I’m an artist based in Aotearoa New Zealand, working mostly with collage and photography. My work explores the intersecting worlds of subculture, fashion, queerness, and emotion — the messy, expressive stuff that doesn’t always fit neatly into boxes.

I’ve been obsessed with collecting and arranging images for as long as I can remember, especially fashion. As a kid, I was always scrapbooking, journaling, tearing things out of magazines, and piecing them together into something that felt like me. That instinct never really left , now it just lives in bigger, louder, more layered forms.

My collages are often editorial in feel, drawing from fashion imagery, queer culture, and visual storytelling. I’m drawn to what’s raw, awkward, the ugly, the beautiful, and the intimate.
